Competition “Umbria Terra di Maestri”

  • Financier: Umbria Region
  • Start year: 2013

Description

The overall objective of the project is to support the process of integration between new citizens, people with knowledge and expressive techniques of their own culture and the Umbrian young people of primary and secondary school, variously involved in the process. To achieve this overall objective, the project intends to involve the students of the Umbrian Academies and schools of art, making them beneficiaries of training, facilitating the “acculturation”, that is the acquisition of “other” cultural elements, deriving from the reading of fairy tales and the transfer of received suggestions in pictorial elaborations. The specific objectives are therefore to mature in the target populations, Italian and foreign young, awareness, consolidation of cultural differences and the promotion of cultural dialogue in order to their formal and informal education. Globalization and migrations south-east/north are posing all of us the question of a cohabitation between cultures and new citizens, who if not governed lead to the claim of homogenization of one over the other or to the conflict. To all of us the task of building an intercultural society, passing necessarily to a multicultural, possibly welcoming and attentive to the opportunities that come from contaminations, and consequent desirable fertilizations, of the meeting. The project has envisioned a route, which takes the cue from the art as an excuse of meeting and a vehicle of dialogue. The project proceeds on two parallel and communicative levels, between cultural contamination and international solidarity, transforming the suggestions deriving from the reading of six “foreign fairy tales”, representing the six most numerous ethnic groups in Umbria, in graphic arts. The winner of the competition will receive a prize of 500 Euros, the winning work will be included in the catalogue which will collect the results of the project.
